The Jacques Leglise Trophy

The Jacques Leglise trophy is the under-18 equivalent of the St Andrews Trophy. It is played annually, though it shares a venue with its older brother whenever the senior competition is being played. History

The Jacques Leglise Trophy Match is played annually between boys representing Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent of Europe.

The match was inaugurated in 1958 as a boys international match but suspended in 1966. It was rejuvenated in 1977 when the late Jean-Louis Dupont of Golf de Chantilly donated a trophy in memory of Jacques Leglise, a past French champion and captain who had served as President of the French Golf Federation and of the European Golf Association.

Initially played as a one-day match, it became a two-day match in 1996. GB&I dominated the early encounters losing only three times before 1995. The strength of European golf has improved dramatically and since then the Continent of Europe has won seven matches including the 2012 match at Portmarnock.

The GB&I team is selected by The R&A and the Continent of Europe side by the European Golf Association.
