The opening foursomes matches at the 2016 Arnold Palmer Cup at Formby Golf Club got underway today.
The first match of the Ryder Cup-style competition between collegiate golfers teed off at 7:30 am on Friday.
England’s Sam Horsfield, ranked third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and Welshman David Boote faced the USA’s Alistair Docherty and Will Gordon in the first macth of the competition. In the second match, Poland’s Adrian Meronk and Austria’s Matthias Schwab face Doug Ghim and Will Zalatoris.
The French team of Antoine Rozner and Robin Sciot-Siegrist take on Rico Hoey and Nahum Mendoza III. In the fourth pairing, Ireland’s Stuart Grehan and Lars van Meijel, from the Netherlands, compete against America’s Derek Bard and Michael Johnson.
The final match sees Swiss golfer Mathias Eggenberger, who secured his place in the European Arnold Palmer Cup team by winning The R&A’s Foundation Scholars Tournament in April, and Sweden’s Robin Petersson against Charlie Danielson and Zach Wright of the United States.
The afternoon four-ball matches are scheduled begin at 1:30 pm with pairings to be determined.
The United States leads the all-time Arnold Palmer Cup series 10-8-1.
