Amateur Championship

Royal Troon & Glasgow - Gailes Links

18 – 23 June 2012

2011 Champion: Bryden Macpherson (Australlia)

Bryden Macpherson topped a stellar amateur field this year at Hillside and Hesketh, in England's north-west. He overcame Michael Stewart 3 and 2 in the 36-hole matchplay final.

Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland will hold this prestigious amateur event in June 2012. Well known to be one of the greatest links courses in Britain, Royal Troon's deep rough and thick gorse combined with the characteristic prevailing north-westerly wind, will provide a real test for some of the world's leading amateurs.

Royal Troon, founded in 1878, has hosted the Championship on five other occasions, but has of course been the venue for eight Open Championships, where golfing greats such as Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson have triumphed.

Glasgow - Gailes Links has recently been added to The Open's Final Qualifying Course rota and will provide a tough, traditional links test for the amateurs before they move on to battle with Royal Troon.
