Revised Guidelines for Putters on 'Plain in Shape' and Head Dimensions

The focus of these new guidelines is on The R&A's interpretation of the 'plain in shape' Rule under Appendix II, 4a. Whilst no change will be made to the Rule itself, the Rule will now be interpreted in such a way that there will be more permissible 'exceptions' made for putters – most notably that appendages will be permitted to the main body of the head of a putter, even if the appendage is not primarily for the purpose of mass or weight distribution. In addition to this, The R&A has decided to introduce certain limits on putter head dimensions under Appendix II, 4b of the Rules.
