2010 edition of Golf Rules Illustrated out now
The 14th Edition of Golf Rules Illustrated has been published by The R&A. The book contains the complete Rules as revised at 1 January 2008 and is designed to provide an easier understanding of the laws of the game, with particular emphasis being given to those situations that cause most difficulty for golfers at all levels.
The 2010 publication features over 100 colour illustrations and photographs - more than in any previous edition - to give clear, visual answers to the many Rules problems that arise on the course. Every Rule is explained clearly and in detail but, should there be any doubt, Frequently Asked Question sections, appearing throughout the book, will pre-empt many queries that remain.
Whereas the Rule Book itself is necessarily as concise as possible and designed to be carried easily in the pocket or golf bag, Golf Rules Illustrated is intended more as a reference document and companion to the Rule Book,' explains Alan Holmes, Chairman of the Rules of Golf Committee, in the foreword to the book.
It is designed to improve awareness and understanding of the Rules of Golf through the use of many photographs, drawings and descriptions of actual incidents in tournament golf.'
Along with the inclusion of many classic Rules scenarios which have affected top professionals in elite competition, such as Ian Woosnam's 15 clubs at the 2001 Open Championship, a number of more recent examples are incorporated in this edition. Anthony Kim's damaged driver at the 2008 HSBC Champions, for instance, is a good example of a club's characteristics being altered outside of the normal course of play'. On that occasion, because he had used the club after it had been damaged, Kim was disqualified.
Golf Rules Illustrated is the essential reference from the game's governing body and is the only official, illustrated guide to the complete Rules of Golf 2008 - 2011. Itis available from The R&A online Shop and from bookshops, priced at £;14.99 each.
