R&A team to compete in international collegiate event
Five Foundation scholars will represent The R&A in an international collegiate event being played at the Fairmont’s Torrance Course just outside St Andrews.
The R&A team will be captained by 2004 Amateur Champion, Stuart Wilson, who played in this event himself in 2002 when a student at Abertay University in Dundee. On that occasion, the team of Scholars finished second, their best performance to date.
The team members are:
| Ambroise Forquet |
(Bordeaux) |
| Alex Main |
(Edinburgh) |
| Andrew Palmer |
(Myerscough) |
| Vincent Thorne |
(Wales) |
| John Wybar |
(Aberdeen) |
Eight university teams in all will compete including those from St Andrews, Stirling, the University of North Carolina and Georgia Southern.
The event will be held on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 September with 36 holes of stroke play played on day one followed by 18 on day two. Four scores out of five will count in each round.
Alison White, The R&A’s Assistant Director – Golf Development said: “This is an excellent opportunity for five R&A scholars to test themselves over the remodelled Torrance Course against top university teams from both sides of the Atlantic.
“We are looking for a good performance from the strong team selected and feel sure our players will be very well led by Stuart Wilson.”
