Junior Open 2012 - Fairhaven Golf Club
The R&A is looking forward to running the 2012 Junior Open at Fairhaven. Here is a description of the club and course.
Listed in both Golf Worlds, ‘The Best 10 ‘Open Championship’ Qualifying Courses’, and ‘Great Britain & Irelands Best 10 Opening Holes’, and described by Peter Allis as “a real hidden gem” Fairhaven is not only a beautiful place to play golf but fully lives up to its designation as a ‘Championship’ course originally designed by James Braid
Fairhaven has all the characteristics of a traditional links course, including a sand sub-soil, allowing year round golf. There is an abundance of wildlife, including various breeds of pheasant, which can be seen strutting around the course and depicted in the Club emblem. Peace and tranquillity are assured. Not a road or house can be seen from the course, despite it being only within two miles of both Lytham and St Annes town centres and hotels.
The course is consistently maintained and presented to the highest standard and the sandy sub-soil means that perfect playing conditions can be enjoyed throughout the year, presenting a fair challenge to golfers of all abilities, with the 'risk & reward' course management elements of the game in negotiating the 122 links bunkers.
