The R&A’s Working for Golf Ambassador Suzann Pettersen claimed her ninth career victory when she won the KEB-HanaBank Championship in South Korea on Sunday.
Pettersen clinched victory with a five-foot birdie putt on the third hole of a play-off with Scotland’s Catriona Matthew in Incheon.
The Norwegian Solheim Cup star held a five shot lead going in to the final round but a two-over par 74 enabled Matthew to come from seven shots back to tie the lead with a five under par 67. After halving the first two holes of the play-off, Pettersen held her nerve to seal a memorable win.
A delighted Pettersen told the media that the victory gave her a great platform for the years ahead. “I am only 31 and my big goal is the Olympics in four years. It is good to get a head start in Korea. It is always good to get in the winner’s circle.”
Pettersen is one of two R&A Working for Golf Ambassadors along with two-time Open Champion Padraig Harrington. They work to promote the work of The R&A which invests more than £10 million each year in developing golf around the world.
