The Amateur Championship highlights to be broadcast on SKY Sports

17 June 2013, Royal Cinque Ports, Kent: Same-day highlights of the 118th Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports will be broadcast over three days on Sky Sports this week.

The Amateur Championship features a field of 288 world-ranked amateur players with the winner earning a place in The Open Championship at Muirfield next month and next year’s US Open at Pinehurst. Traditionally the winner also receives an invitation to The Masters. 

They will be looking to follow in the footsteps of former Major Champions and Ryder Cup players who have played in The Amateur Championship over the years including Jack Nicklaus, Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Louis Oosthuizen and the reigning Open Champion, Ernie Els. 

Leading the field in the 2013 Amateur Championship are Australia’s Brady Watt and Julien Brun from France who are in the top ten of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Corhampton’s Neil Raymond, winner of the recent St Andrews Links Trophy, is joined by fellow Englishmen, Max Orrin (North Foreland) and Nathan Kimsey (Woodhall Spa), who is the highest ranked British player in the starting line-up at 16th. 

The programmes, which are presented by Rolex, will air on Sky Sports on Thursday, 20 June, Friday, 21 June and Saturday, 22 June. 

The coverage will include one hour programmes on the Final and the Semi-Finals and Quarter-Finals and 30 minute highlights programmes on the third and fourth rounds.

The stroke play stage of The Amateur Championship is played over the first two days of competition at Royal Cinque Ports and Prince’s before the field is cut to 64 and ties. The match play stage is played over the final four days at Royal Cinque Ports.
