Liang Wen-Chong qualifies for the US Open

Liang Wen-Chong is set to become the first golfer from China to play in all four Major Championships after leading today’s US Open Qualifying event in Japan.

The R&A Working for Golf Ambassador posted a 9-under-par total of 133 to lead the six qualifiers from the 36-hole event at Nara International Golf Club in Japan.

Liang will complete a grand slam of Major championship appearances at the US Open at Pinehurst next month having already featured in The Open, the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship.

He became the first Chinese player to play in The Open at Royal Birkdale in 2008 and has 19 career victories to his name.

In his role as ambassador, Liang is supporting a national media campaign in China developed by The R&A, the China Golf Association and Rolex to help raise awareness of golf course etiquette and the Rules of Golf amongst the country’s growing golf community.
