When areas on or adjoining the course are declared by an appropriate authority to be environmentally-sensitive and, therefore, entry into and/or play from the areas is prohibited, it is recommended that the Local Rule for Environmentally-Sensitive Areas contained in Appendix I, Part B in the Rules of Golf is adopted. Several Decisions under Rule 33-8 in the Decisions book further clarify aspects of this Local Rule. It is important to note that a Committee may not declare an area as environmentally sensitive. An appropriate authority, e.g. a government agency, can only declare an area as environmentally sensitive.
