Champions will be crowned in coming weeks as Australia plays host to two notable events on tournament professionals’ calendars. The R&A’s Director – Golf Course Management, Steve Isaac, was fortunate to visit the venues for the Australian Masters and the Australian Open when he was in the country earlier this year.

Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne is a classic Sand Belt course and host to the Australian Masters on 12 – 15 November. For the first time, an Australian tournament has totally pre-sold, mainly due to the overwhelming demand to see world number one Tiger Woods and the best Australian field in years.

Tiger Woods will be at Kingston Heath for the Australian Masters.Kingston Heath is an extremely natural looking course which takes advantage of the free-draining soils and native vegetation to produce firm, running conditions. It has been the Australasian venue for the International Qualifying for The Open Championship in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009.

Woods will not be staying on for the Australian Open, to be held on 3 – 6 December at the New South Wales Golf Club. This Golf Australia championship will feature a strong field of home grown talent, including Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and Greg Norman.

NSW Golf Club is spectacularly set on the Pacific coastline, close to Sydney on the northern headland of Botany Bay. It is surrounded by a national park and, consequently, it is subject to many regulations, not unlike some of The Open Championship venues. Native vegetation is protected and controlled burning helps to rejuvenate the bush. The 6th is its signature hole; a par 3 played over the ocean.
