The 27-year-old has a rare condition called Ellis–van Creveld syndrome, characterised by a shorter stature and shorter limbs. However, despite his disability, he talks with confidence on leading a normal, happy and healthy life. “Since this journey started, more and more I delve into my past and realise how tough it was at the start,” said Lawlor. “I really enjoyed talking to Iona about my story.” Iona Stephen added, “In this series that we have been running, we are very lucky and very honoured to get the time with people like Brendan who are such an inspiration for so many reasons, not just on the golf course but off the course too.” Lawlor, who turned professional in 2019, made history by becoming the first golfer with a disability to compete on the DP World Tour at the ISPS HANDA UK Championship in August 2020. The G4D Open, held in partnership between The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA, is one of the most inclusive ever staged, featuring nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups, with 80 players from across the world. Lawlor added, “It was incredible to win The G4D Open last year and it felt special to be back, coming over and getting a few days practice at Woburn in March. I can’t wait to try and defend my title.” Spectators are encouraged to attend at Woburn next month with attendance and car parking free of charge.  View more information here.
