The 49th Seniors Amateur Championship

Conditions

  1. These conditions of entry are entered into between the competitor and R&A Championships Limited (Company number SC247047) and having its registered office at Beach House, Golf Place, St Andrews, Fife KY16 9JA. References in the conditions to decisions of the Championship Committee are to decisions taken by the Championship Committee on behalf of R&A Championships Limited.
  2. The Championship will be decided by stroke play over three rounds, which will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited and with the Local Rules as approved by the Championship Committee.
  3. Competitors will play one round on Wednesday 9 August and one on Thursday 10 August. The 60 lowest scores over these 36 holes and any tying for 60th place will qualify for the final 18 holes on Friday 11 August. If a competitor, who has posted a two round total that will qualify for the final round, withdraws before or after the final round draw is made, the competitor’s results will still be used to calculate the leading 60 places and ties that will determine the cut mark.
  4. In the event of a tie after three rounds, the winner of the Championship and Gold Medal will be decided by a hole by hole play off to take place immediately. In the event of a tie for second place the Silver Medal will be decided on the lowest score for the last 18 holes (or the last 9 or 6 or 3 or 1 hole). If a tie still arises, the scores for the 2nd round will be treated in the same way until a decision is reached. The competitor in third place and those tied for third place will each receive a bronze medal.
  5. A subsidiary competition will be played within the Championship. The competitor, who has attained the age of 65 years before 9 August 2017, returning the lowest gross score over 54 holes will receive a memento. In the event of a tie, the procedure will be as Condition 4.
  6. The specimen conditions in the Rules of Golf are in effect regarding Conforming Driver Heads and conforming Golf Balls. The specimen condition in Decision 4-1/1 of Decision on the Rules of Golf is in effect for Grooves and Punch Marks.
  7. Competitors shall walk at all times during a stipulated round unless permitted to ride by the Championship Committee.
  8. A competitor must not make use of any drug to enhance performance. Should a competitor show clinical evidence of use of a drug for a nontherapeutic purpose, the Committee may require the competitor to undergo a drug test. Any competitor infringing this Condition may be disqualified. Competitors who are on medication and in doubt as to their clinical status should seek advice from The R&A in the Championship Office.
  9. A copy of the full Pace of Play conditions will be posted at the Championship and will be available on request.
  10. The wearing of jeans of any colour or shorts is not permitted whilst practising or competing at this Championship.
  11. R&A Championships Limited seeks media coverage and publicity for the Seniors Amateur Championship around and during the Championship via both the written press and via broadcast and audio-visual media. Each competitor by entering the Championship and by agreeing to these terms and conditions assigns to R&A Championships Limited and its assignees and licensees the right in perpetuity throughout the world to make, use, edit, exhibit and reproduce (and to authorise others to do so) in any and all media (whether Press, radio, television, internet or otherwise), whether now known or hereafter devised for commercial and/or other purposes from time to time and at their discretion, any and all pictures, coverage, recordings and any other reproductions of any description of the competitor made during or in connection with the Championship (including, without limitation, during practice and play) without compensation for the competitor or the heirs, successors, executors, administrators or assignees of the competitor. The competitor also assigns the right to use and reproduce their name, voice, likeness and biographical material in any way now known or hereafter devised by R&A Championships Limited for the purpose of promoting the Championship and any subsequent Championships, without compensation for the competitor or the heirs, successors, executors, administrators or assignees of the competitor including in circumstances where it may include the logo of a third party or of a sponsor or patron of the Championship or any subsequent Championship or any other activities undertaken by R&A Championships Limited. Competitors shall be responsible for ensuring that their caddies (if applicable) will assign to R&A Championships Limited and its successors and licensees equivalent rights in relation to the caddie. Notwithstanding the foregoing grant of rights, R&A Championships Limited and its assignees and licensees agree that, other than as permitted above, they will not authorise any company contractually associated with R&A Championships Limited to use the competitor’s name, voice, likeness and biographical material in a way which constitutes the endorsement of a product or service, without first requiring such associated company to obtain the competitor’s authorisation. R&A Championships Limited may also use any image of the competitor taken at the Championship to populate the relevant pages of the WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGTM website at wagr.com
  12. A competitor whose withdrawal is not notified by 12 noon three days before the start of the Championship or who is absent from the Championship without notice of his withdrawal will have his entries to all R&A Championships rejected for the next calendar year. Exceptions may be made in case of sickness and other special circumstances at the discretion of the Championship Committee. When a competitor has withdrawn due to sickness or injury he must submit an authorised medical certificate to the Amateur Entries Department within seven days otherwise the competitor shall be liable to have future entries scrutinised which may result in entries being rejected. If an entrant withdraws before or after the closure of entries, their withdrawal is final and re-entry will not be allowed.
  13. Competitors are requested to register at the Clubhouse immediately on arrival at Sunningdale on Monday 7 or Tuesday 8 August.
  14. Entries to the Championship must be made online via randa.org, payment will be taken when the entry is submitted. Entry by telephone will not be accepted. It is the entrants’ responsibility to ensure the online entry is completed successfully and all contact details are accurate. All Championship information including a list of accepted entries may be viewed at randa.org
  15. By completing an online entry you declare conformity in all respects to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by R&A Rules Limited.
  16. Entrants must have reached the age of 55 years before 9 August 2017.
  17. Except entrants from USA & Mexico, an entry will also be accepted from any male competitor whose exact handicap does not exceed 4.0 under the handicapping system adopted by the country from which he has entered. The exact handicap certified at date of entry will be used for all purposes. i.e. no change of handicap will be accepted, even if prior to the closing date. Where an entry is made using the entrants’ Centralised Database Handicap (CDH) number from the country of origin, it is the entrants’ responsibility to ensure that their exact handicap is up to date. In order for an entry to be accepted that has not been made using a CDH, handicap certification at the date of entry will be required to be emailed immediately to amateurentries@randa.org Failure to submit handicap certification will result in an entry being rejected. For those entering from USA and Mexico, entrants must fulfil an exemption as listed under Condition 18.
  18. Any entrant falling within one of the following categories will be allocated a place in the starting field.
    (a) Any past Seniors Amateur Champion or US Senior Amateur Champion.
    (b) The first 30 and anyone tying for 30th place in the Seniors Amateur Championship in 2016. Anyone who played in:
    (c) The Amateur Championship 2013-2017.
    (d) The US Amateur Championship 2012-2016.
    (e) The match play stage of the US Mid-Amateur Championship 2012-2016.
    (f) The 2015-2016 Senior Open Championship.
    (g) The 2015-2016 US Senior Open Championship.
    (h) The match play stages of the 2015 and 2016 US Senior Amateur Championships.
    (i) Past playing member of a USA or GB&I Walker Cup side.
    (j) Playing members of the four Seniors Home International teams 2016 (i.e. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales).
    (k) The champion and runner(s)-up in the English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh Senior Open Amateur Championships 2016.

  19. In the event of the number of USA and Mexico exempt entrants exceeding 72, the exempt competitors’ list will comprise players from categories, in order of priority (a) to (i). In the event of a reduction of exempt entries in one category being required, entry will be decided using exact handicaps at date of entry.

  20. The starting field will be 144. In the event of entries exceeding this number, entry will be decided using exact handicaps. Unsuccessful entrants will be given the opportunity to compete in the event of withdrawals.
  21. The online entry fee of £80 must be received by The Amateur Entries Department, not later than close of entries, i.e. 23:59 GMT on Thursday 6 July 2017
  22. An entry shall be accepted only if the online entry is fully completed, including payment by Debit/Credit card and submission of handicap certification if applicable. Please note: Acceptance of your online entry does not guarantee a place in the starting field. Players successful in gaining a place in the starting field will be advised after the entry closing date. Entry fees will be refunded if intimation of withdrawal is received on or before close of entries i.e. Thursday 6 July 2017 - please note a service charge of £10 sterling will be deducted. After close of entries, entry fees will only be refunded in full to entrants who do not gain a place in the starting field. Refund of entry fees will be issued within 28 days of the final day of the Championship by the method of original payment. If an entrant withdraws before or after the closure of entries, their withdrawal is final and re-entry will not be permitted.
  23. All entries are subject to the approval of the Championship Committee that reserves the right to disqualify any competitor making a false statement on his online entry and to accept or refuse or, having accepted, subsequently reject any entry without giving reason for its decision. The Committee may request the Certificate of Birth of any competitor before or during the Championship.
  24. The winner will be the Champion Senior Amateur Golfer for the year and will receive the Championship Trophy which he shall hold for that year. The Trophy shall be recalled on a date to be advised by The R&A.
  25. The Championship Committee reserves the right to amend the Championship conditions.
  26. R&A Championships Limited will use the information you provide within an online entry to process your entrance to and participation in The Seniors Amateur Championship. It may also be used by R&A Championships Limited to: (a) update the WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGTM, if relevant; and (b) provide you with information on Rule updates or similar information regarding the game of golf. R&A Championships Limited may share your information within the R&A group of companies for these purposes. R&A Championships Limited will use the information provided by a parent/guardian within an online entry to verify the confirmations given by the parent/guardian within an online entry. At all times R&A Championships Limited will process your information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
