A tale of two nations in the Amateur Championship Semi-Finals

It is a tale of two nations in the Semi-Finals of the 120th Amateur Championship at Carnoustie today. Frenchmen Alexandre Daydou and Romain Langasque will take on Scotland’s Grant Forrest and Jack McDonald respectively for a place in tomorrow’s 36-hole final.

In the morning Quarter-Finals, Daydou (pictured), the Italian International Amateur Champion, won the first of the two all-French Quarter-Finals by 3&2 against Antoine Rozner while Langasque defeated Robin Sciot-Siegrist by two holes.

Scottish international McDonald enjoyed a convincing 6&5 win over the last Englishman in the field Sean Towndrow. The 22-year-old was four-under-par through 13 holes and didn’t let his opponent gain a foothold in the match.

Forrest showed his grit to come out on top against fellow Scot Marchbank. Trailing for most of the match, 20-year-old Marchbank turned things around by winning three consecutive holes from the 14th, which he eagled, and was two up with two to play. Forrest was not to be denied, however, winning the 17th and keeping the match alive at the 18th when Marchbank’s par putt stayed out. After the 19th hole was halved in par, a birdie three on the 20th sealed the match for Forrest.
