Ireland’s Leona Maguire has won the 2017 Great Britain and Ireland Women’s Order of Merit.
She will receive an exemption into next year’s Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes providing she remains an amateur.
Maguire has enjoyed another excellent season having won the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at Pyle & Kenfig and played in the Women’s British Open at Kingbarns, finishing T-49.
The 22-year-old, who has entered her senior year at Duke University, won the Mark H McCormack Medal as the leading player in the 2017 WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKING™ and finished first in the European Women’s Amateur Ranking.
The Irishwoman has picked up a number of awards this year, including the ANNIKA Award as the National Player of the Year which is voted on by college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media in the United States. Maguire was also voted the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Player of the Year for 2016/17, the second time she has received the accolade.
