Arnold Palmer coaches announced
The tournament organisers have also announced that the United States coaching team will consist of Scott Limbaugh and Mic Potter as coaches for the Ryder Cup-style match which will be held at The Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas from June 7 – 9.
Next year’s event will be the first played in the United States since the tournament was expanded to include both men and women players at the Evian Resort in Paris earlier in 2018 where the United States picked up their 12th victory.
The University of Michigan’s Jan Dowling has spent the last four seasons reshaping the golf programme into a Big Ten and a national contender with the team making back-to-back trips to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships in 2016 and 2017.
After a four-year wait, Dowling's 2015-16 squad returned to the NCAA postseason by rallying with a sixth-place finish at the Alabama Regional to advance to the 2016 finals for just the second time in history and the first in 14 years.
Missing the first team cut by just four shots, the Wolverines tied for 18th to end an historic season. In 2017, Michigan tied for 16th while Elodie Van Dievoet tied for fourth in the individual event - both results were the best in their programme history. Prior to her stint at Michigan, Dowling served as head coach at Florida from 2009-12 and was an assistant at Kent State, Duke and Tennessee.
As a collegiate golfer at Kent State, she helped lead the Golden Flashes to four-straight MAC championships. Dowling was the individual medallist two years in a row at the MAC Championship, a four-time first team All-MAC selection and was named the 2000 MAC Player of the Year.
She previously served as Arnold Palmer assistant coach at the 2018 match at the Evian Resort Golf Club.
Immelman is in his 18th season at Columbus State, serving 14 years heading up the men’s programme then subsequently named as Director of Golf in 2015.
He has worked steadily to rebuild the CSU programme to its traditional place among the Division II elite. Immelman's squads have advanced to the postseason in each of his 15 years at the helm and finished as runners-up at the National Championship in 2006.
He has won numerous coaching awards including being named the 2009 NCAA Division II Dave Williams National Coach of the Year.
In his four seasons playing for Columbus State, Immelman was a three-time All-American while the Cougars won multiple national championships. He was inducted into the Columbus State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
Scott Limbaugh and Mic Potter
Limbaugh is in his seventh season with Vanderbilt University’s golf programme, winning a Vanderbilt coaching record of 20 team tournaments alongside 16 individual tournament winners.
With 13 seasons at the University of Alabama and 35 overall, Potter has an established Hall-of-Fame legacy. The past 13 years have been historic for Potter including their first national championship in 2012 and guiding Emma Talley to the individual NCAA Championship in 2015, the first in the programme’s history.
His 2012 national championship, 2018 runner-up finish and 13 straight NCAA Championships berths only reaffirmed his status as one of the most accomplished coaches in women's collegiate golf.
Arnold Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male and female university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players.
Since its inception, over 100 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on either the PGA or European Tours, 28 alumni have gone on to represent Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, and more than 50 have claimed over 200 victories on the PGA or European Tours. The United States leads the series 12-9-1.
