Welcome to The 2019 Rules of Golf.  Below you will find many resources available tailored to your individual needs as a Golfer, a Committee Member, or a Referee.

This information can be accessed on various platforms, including this web-site, the 2019 Rules of Golf App and our various publications; The Player’s Edition, The Rules of Golf and the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.

Overview

The Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf is the publication written for you the golfer. Although its text is edited, it gives you the same answer that is in the full Rules of Golf and so it is a functioning Rule book. Diagrams and videos are also included to help you learn and understand the Rules.

The R&A web-site and App also contain many helpful videos and a visual search function which is designed to help you find the Rules for the most common situations more quickly.

Rules Essentials

  • These 10 short videos will explain the most common Rules in a fun and user-friendly way.
  • They will be available soon on social media and in full on the web-site and App later in 2018.

Rules Academy

  • The “Academy” aims to help all golfers learn the most important aspects of the Rules. You will also have the option of taking an exam to check that you are 2019-ready.

Overview

Committee members should familiarise themselves with the full Rules of Golf which is the publication intended for those who administer the game.

The Committee Procedures section of the Official Guide also contains practical guidance for those involved in running day to day play at golf courses or running competitions at all levels of the game, and includes Model Local Rules that the Committee can adopt to meet local needs.

  • This is aimed at helping Committees get to know the Committee Procedures section of the Official Guide, and to prepare for running competitions under the 2019 Rules.

Overview

All referees should familiarise themselves with the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf. This is a reference book for those involved in the administration of the game at all levels and contains the sections below. It is also available on the web-site and in the Rules App:

Committee Toolkit

  • The ‘Committee Toolkit’ is aimed at helping Committees get to know the Committee Procedures section of the Official Guide, and to better understand the changes that they need to make in advance of 2019 to reflect the new Rules. It will include a ‘Local Rules Creator’ which will assist Committee with updating Local Rules for 2019.
