The Distance Insights Report provides comprehensive research and analysis on the contributors to, and long-term impacts of, hitting distance in golf.
After extensive stakeholder research, the report features more than 100 years of data, informed by a library of 56 supporting documents. It is accompanied by a 15-page conclusions paper that summarises the governing bodies’ perspectives on the long-term implications for the sport.
To facilitate input from manufacturers and other stakeholders in the golf community, specific topics of further research will be identified and published within 45 days. It is expected that this important step in gathering input could take approximately nine months to one year.
The Distance Insights project will examine distance through a multi-pronged approach that includes global stakeholder engagement, third-party data review, and research. Focus groups and discussion forums will play an important role in the project, to secure a broad range of perspectives throughout golf.
This page will be used as a communication tool and you can expect it to evolve over the coming months.
We are interested in hearing your comments and perspectives on distance, including: whether it has impacted you and how this has manifested itself, how you perceive hitting distance and how distance and its impact might evolve in the future.
The R&A and the USGA are finalising the Distance Insights Project Report, which has been informed by data from across the game.
Reinforcing our commitment to ensure that the report is the most comprehensive review of distance to date, we are taking more time to complete our due diligence. As a result, we will release the final report by 4 February 2020.
We appreciate the contributions and support we have received and believe that the data and discussion will benefit the entire golf community.
