Each year, The R&A invests more than £300,000 in student and university golf. Currently, The R&A supports golf programmes at 15 universities and awards 100 individual Foundation scholarships to players from all over the world.
The centrepiece of the year is the annual R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament. Contested in St Andrews in April over 54 holes, the Tournament offers the leading man a place on the European Palmer Cup team to face the USA, with the leading woman receiving a starting place at a Ladies European Tour event. The event carries World Amateur Golf RankingTM points.
Individual applicants for Foundation scholarships must be in full-time tertiary education. Male applicants must hold a handicap of +1 or better, while female applicants must be 2 or below. Applications will also be considered from players who have been selected for a national team or squad, even if they do not meet the handicap requirements. Students based in the USA will not be considered for R&A Scholarships.
Applicants must complete the online application form as paper application forms will not be accepted. Applications for 2017/2018 will be accepted between 1 August and 30 September 2017.
