My journey through the AAC Rules Scholarship has been one of the most exciting chapters of my golfing career. When I first joined the programme, I had no idea how much I would grow — not only in my Rules knowledge, but also in my confidence, communication skills and connection to the wider world of golf.
This year’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai marked a particularly special milestone. On the very first day, as I stepped onto the beautifully prepared course, I caught myself thinking, “I can’t believe I’m actually here.” The atmosphere was incredible: the best amateur golfers from across the region showcasing their talent, top-class referees and officials delivering the Championship at the highest standards… it was the kind of environment that makes you want to improve, absorb everything and contribute your very best.
Each day on the course brought new lessons — handling rulings under pressure, observing how experienced referees communicate with clarity, and understanding how much teamwork it takes to run a major championship smoothly. One moment that truly stood out to me was watching the Chief Referee manage challenging situations in such a calm manner, while still taking care of everyone on the team. It reminded me exactly why I love Rules officiating: it’s a blend of knowledge, teamwork and integrity.
I am also incredibly grateful for the friendships built along the way. Meeting referees from across the region, sharing experiences, and supporting one another made the week feel like joining a small but very passionate family.
Looking back, I feel proud of how far I’ve come and excited for how much more there is to learn. I’m deeply thankful to The R&A for their trust, guidance and the opportunities they continue to offer young referees like me. Dubai was a wonderful chapter — and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
