Ryan Fox is Champion Golfer of the Year after a dramatic victory in The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.

The 39-year-old birdied the 18th hole to claim the Claret Jug in stunning fashion.  His 10-under-par total was enough to finish one clear of closest challenger Cameron Young, four birdies in the final six holes helping him clinch the title. Fox is the second player from New Zealand to lift the Claret Jug, following Bob Charles' success at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1963. The 155th Open will take place at St Andrews from 11 to 18 July 2027.

The 154th Open

Royal Birkdale, England

Prior to Ryan Fox's triumph, The Open was last held at Royal Birkdale in 2017 when Jordan Spieth clinched a dramatic victory to lift the Claret Jug. Birkdale was established in 1889 but redesigned in 1922 to create the current layout, which winds its way through sand dunes towering over each fairway. Since first hosting The Open in 1954, it has been the most regular venue, other than St Andrews.
