Pre-Qualifying provides a route into the Championship for those players who do not have the pre-requisite World Amateur Golf Ranking®. Scotland’s Tait posted a winning score of five-under-par 67, as the Aldeburgh member triumphed by a stroke over Charlie Denvir from Ireland. Two players shared third place on three-under, England’s Jake Benson and Hannes Hillburger from Germany.

Play-off Drama

The qualifying score fell at 73, one-over-par, with eight players playing off for seven spots. The play-off was concluded on the fourth extra hole, with Englishman Kipp Popert the one player to miss out. He is now reserve number one for the Championship. The opening tee shot of the Pre-Qualifier was struck by Ireland’s David Kitt, the 2022 R&A Student Tour Series Order of Merit winner, but he missed out after a three-over 75.
