Lottie Woad, the world's number one amateur

Lottie Woad spearheads the Great Britain and Ireland side for the Vagliano Trophy later this month.

The leading player on the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®) is part of the eight-player GB&I team for the meeting with the Continent of Europe at Royal Hague Golf & Country Club in the Netherlands from 27-28 June. Non-playing captain Maria Dunne also includes Woad’s fellow Curtis Cup players Beth Coulter, Hannah Darling, Aine Donegan and Patience Rhodes in her line-up. All were part of the win over the USA at Sunningdale last September.

Isla McDonald-O’Brien, who reached the quarter-finals of last week’s Women’s Amateur Championship at Nairn, is also named. Sophia Fullbrook and Nellie Ong also make their first appearances. Senior Irish internationalist Deirdre Walsh again leads the GB&I girls’ team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy, being held at Royal Hague Golf & Country Club at the same time. Walsh steered GB&I to a first-ever victory over the Continent of Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy at West Lancashire last August.   GB&I team for the Vagliano Trophy: Beth Coulter, Ireland, Kirkistown Castle, 21
