The Walker Cup is a prestigious international match bringing together leading amateur male players from Great Britain and Ireland and the United States of America for the biennial contest.
It has been played by many of the sport’s greatest golfers and selection to play in the historic match is often regarded as the highlight of an amateur’s career. Past competitors include Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Collin Morikawa, Sir Michael Bonallack, Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy.The GB&I team of 10 for the 2026 Walker Cup at Lahinch will be announced on Tuesday 18 August.
GB&I Team Selection Criteria
The current Amateur Champion if eligible.
The current US Amateur Champion if eligible.
The top-five GB&I players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR ®) published on Wednesday 5 August with a minimum divisor of 18. Should The Amateur Champion and/or US Amateur Champion occupy one of the five guaranteed WAGR positions the fourth/fifth automatic positions will not transfer to the sixth/seventh ranked GB&I player(s) in WAGR. Captain picks remaining places.
Should one of the top-five WAGR players be unavailable or does not have a minimum divisor of 18 the place will not transfer to the sixth ranked GB&I player in WAGR. The place will become an additional Captain’s pick.
