The 54-hole stroke play championship, first played at Fulford in 2018, was introduced as part of The R&A’s drive to boost the girls’ game in Great Britain and Ireland and beyond, as well as provide a pathway to the elite amateur level for leading young players.

The R&A Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship attracts players from across the world and England’s Rosie Bee Kim, who won the Under-12s section in 2018, took the main title with success at Enville in 2021. Scotland's Grace Crawford secured victory in 2022.
