First established in 1976 and now organised by The R&A, the AIG Women’s Open is one of five major championships in women’s golf.

The 2026 AIG Women’s Open will take place at Royal Lytham & St Annes, England from 30 July to 2 August. Each year an international field of 144 players compete for the championship trophy with the low amateur, who plays 72 holes, awarded the Smyth Salver. The reining Champion is Miyu Yamashita who won in 2025 at Royal Porthcawl, Wales with a score of 11-under-par.  The 24-year-old from Osaka completed the victory courtesy of a final-round 70, finishing two shots clear at the summit. Paula Martín Sampedro capped an incredible year by winning the coveted Smyth Salver. Having won The Women’s Amateur Championship in June she carried this momentum into the AIG Women's Open, where a stunning final round helped her end the weekend as the best-placed of four amateurs in the field. Women in Golf Leadership Development Programme

We believe that a more inclusive workforce is a more effective workforce. Having more diversity in the boardroom and C-Suite is crucial and so we want to inspire more women to go on to enjoy successful careers working in golf.  We introduced our Leadership Development Programme with that very aim in mind. It is open to women working in organisations that are committed to our Women in Golf Charter who want to realise their potential and become future leaders.
